Do you remember the song . . . . . .
" Try to remember a day in September
when life was slow and oh so mellow..
Try to remember the kind of September
when grass was green and grain was yellow
Try to remember the kind of September
when you were a tender and callow fellow
Try to remember and if you remember
then folllow . . . ."
At this time of the year I always think of this beautiful song; and it stays with me through the autumn - this and the song "Autumn Leaves " .......... I can hear the piano now . . .
The first time I heard The September Song, I was newly married and my husband and I had season tickets to a local community theatre - TNT Playhouse - . There will be some of you who will know where it is because it is still there today with the dedication of many, many people.
When I listen to the song and it goes over and over in my head I remember sitting in that small theatre ..
nice thoughts.
In gathering information from here and there and my memory, .. the song goes back to 1960
when "The Fantasticks" was first performed at The Sullivan Theatre in Greenwich Village in New York City and is about a young couple and young love.
And, thanks to Harvey Schmidt and writer-lyricist, Tom Jones, this song will be on my mind and in my heart .....yesterday, today and tomorrow. And now, it may be in yours as well.
I hope that you take the time to embrase the colors and smells of autumn.
