 "LOVE MAILINGS" "Love Mailings" is another piece of my art that went to New Zealand for the 14th International Collage Exhibition and Exchange, last month. The exhibit is now up and open to the public at the Gallery in Taranaki, New Zealand. It is also on the Net http://virtual.tart.co.nz Thus allowing a world audiance to view and a chance to buy these collages. And, the ones that do not sell will be permanently available at www.outofsight.co.nz One piece, which the artist chose will go to the permanet collection of Aotea Wanganui Institute in Australia. In early to mid May each artist will receive back 11 pieces of art from 11 other artists throughout the world. As any of the participating artists will tell you - this is an exciting time to have and own a piece of art from another county and to study their style and techniques. I chose the title "Love Mailings" to remember and honor the art of of hand written letters. I believe that the art of beuatiful hand writing - the perfect flow, the perfectly formed letters is slowly coming to an end. Emails now are taking place. But, there is something so exciting waiting and receiving a letter in the actual mail - some of us had pen pals as children and waited in anticipation for that letter from a friend in another country. And, the love letters of our grandparents and great grandparents during the wars - preserving their love until the return home.  "THE GATHERING PLACE EXHIBIT" As a part of Focus Fiber 2011-2012, I along with 2 other artists exhited our work in an exhibit titled "Expressions In Mixed Media". Our art was on exhibit at The Gathering Place in Westlake, Ohio, from January 6, - April 1, 2012. I was honored to have my art in their Gallery. The Gathering Place provides educational and supportive services to cancer patients, family and loved ones including care givers and children. As soon as you enter the doors you hear the sound of a small fountain and the soft sounds of flute and harp. The Gathering Place surrounds you with a zen atmosphere and among the individual and group services provides the Art of Healing which includes meditation, massage, reiki and reflexology. Each of us had approximately 13 pieces of our work on display and included book art, encaustics, collage, silk and acrylic work, hand made paper, art quilting and watercolor. Yesterday, my very dear friend and artist, Sandy, and I took down the exhibit. It is never quite as much fun dismanteling an exhibit as it is hanging the exhibit - as many of you understand. But, it is with many thanks that we were able to exhibit our work at The Gathering Place and happy to know that even if one of our pieces touched someone's heart and soul - if it made someone happy even for a moment - that is what it is all about. ~~Ciao~~ |
