"Passion" ` One Artist's Journey

"Passion"

I am honored to have this piece of my art, "Passion" juried into the

32nd Annual Women Artists: A Celebration - YWCA Youngstown, Ohio Exhibition.

It is mixed media with primary encaustic work. It is 13" X 15" professionally

framed and wired ready for hanging.

It is an annual exhibition in support of the YWCA - "eliminating racism -

empowering women"

The Exhibit opens to the public on June 21, 2014 - July 18, 2014.

(Except July 4-5 and all Sundays, Except July 13, 2014)

All art work will be displayed on the YWCA website. Art work

that is available for sale will have their sale prices listed.

"Reminder Open Studio"

Just a quick reminder to take a drive in the

country and visit the Open Studio of Sandy

Shelenberger this coming Saturday, Oct 26,

2013. The Studio is located at 6859 Bushnell

Rd., (same as Rt 84) Conneaut, Ohio. Watch

for the signs. From Ohio: 2 miles East of Rt

7 on Rt 84; coming from Pa., 1 mile West of

State Line (Rt 226 in pa becomes Rt 84 in Ohio)

House is on North side of the road.

Event starts at 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM. Local

artists will have their work on display for sale. The day will be filled with Demo's

light refreshments, Raffle. Benefit items are also for the Ashtabula, Ohio

County Humane Society. And, there is a Meet And Great for some of our

furry friends who want their forever home~

While in the area ~ you can enjoy the ever lasting beauty of Lake Erie and The

Conneaut Light House as well as covered bridges and local wineries.

of Rt 7 & Rt 84. Watch for signs. At the

intersection - traveling North - turn right & travel

approx 1 1/2 miles to blue house on left. Feel free

to telephone if you need further direction.

Sandy's art as well as other area artists will

have their art on display. Come and enjoy refreshments and time to surround yourself

with art; and leisurely conversation time with the artists. The local animal rescue

will be there with pets that want their forever homes and a portion of money will

be donated to them.

INAUGURAL ART AND WINE RETREAT

Enjoy a relaxing and fun weekend of making art in a fabulous 27 acre wooded estate on the Grand River in Austinburg, Ohio ~~ the heart of Northeast Ohio's wine country ~~
and conveniently located just minutes from I-90.
An Art Workshop in ENCAUSTIC (WAX) PRINTMAKING AND BEYOND!
Presented by Local and Internationally recognized artist, Sandy Shelenberger.
September 21, 22, 23, 2012.
ARRIVE: Friday, Sept. 21 @ 1:00 PM & DEPART: Sunday, Sept. 23 @ Noon.
FEE: $350.00 per person, shared accommodations (Private accommodations are available for a higher
fee - inquire if you are interested.) Participation in this workshop is limited to 8 artists
to ensure individual attention.
The FEE INCLUDES a light lunch upon arrival on Friday, Breakfast & Lunch on Saturday.
Brunch on Sunday; and snacks, Lodging, Winery Tour, Art Instruction and Art Supply Kit.
LODGING - This newly renovated and charming country home is impeccably clean and has 3 large bedrooms - each with a private bath. There is a full kitchen, great room with fireplace & event room.
The facility is non-smoking, air conditioned, and nature walks & pond.

DINING - You will be pampered with freshly prepared meals using locally grown fruits and vegetables.

~~Poetry In Wax ~~

"Poetry In Motion"
Encaustic is a very old technique used by the Greeks and Egyptian 3000 years ago. It is a medium
that uses melted wax and can be applied or
moved by various means such as brushes, heat guns, torches, pallet knives, ...............
or really anything the artist chooses to initiate into the process.
The art piece can be created with lots of texture, no texture with a very smooth surface or a combination of both. Mono printing is another technique used in the application of the wax and/or movement.
In this particular piece of art I layered various colors of wax using a drip method, heat gun, blow dryer and sanding. The base on which this piece is created is on encaustic board. However, the art can be developed and the final piece of art completed on wood panel or sometimes I use rice paper or watercolor paper which is stabilized.
              Below you will my encaustic station or work table in my studio. There is another piece in process which I am hoping to complete tomorrow.

Friday Evening Sunset

This past Friday evening, I made it to my little summer place
on Lake Erie. Sitting at my place - the view was awesome.
What is it about sunsets that always brings calmness ...
I have read somewhere that Lake Erie has the most beautiful sunsets in the world. I believe it.

"Zen Morning"

This morning was so cool, so refreshing - I just walked around my lawn and captured the beauty
of the morning. This is the cupid fountain, herbs, and flowers,
and lanterns outside my studio. I am going through the pink door soon
to create in my studio.
I wish each of you a beautiful and creative day.

"RUST BELT"

Taking you further along the way of my New Zealand Collage Exhibition &
Exchange journey. This is the one I ear marked "for sale" and has already received some great comments & kuddos!

The Title represents the high time and the low time of the steel mill era of Ohio and Mid-
Western Pa. The reds & oranges depict the fires that along with the men who fired those
fires made the steel industry what it once was in this country and in our own local Valley. The fires from the mills lit up
the skies both day and night.
And, then............this time.....this era ended. And, the area that produced most of the steel for the
nation & export died. No jobs, the steel mills, the buildings themselves now stand alone
like skeletons against the sky.
The piece of rusted steel that is a part of this collage represents what is left ,,,,
The Rust Belt.
