"Shasta Daisy " ' A WEDDING SHOWER & OTHER THINGS"* Today is the count down to one of our best friend's wedding shower. Another girlfriend, who we call our Georgia Peach, is in from Atlanta, favors made and china, crystal, linen table cloths and napkins and silver ready for the table settings .......The bride just turned 70 (altho does not look anywhere near that number) - and we are a part of a big summer wedding. A time of memories, reflections, and much happiness. A time to really be in each moment..........to be aware of each breath, each hug, each word .......... In the cool of this morning, today - I sat and watched dawn break across the lake and listened to the warblers' beautiful and happy melody, the blue jays lining up orders for the day's agenda .... and then walked my lawn and picked some flowers. This was not one I picked because as you will see in the upper right corner is a bubble bee tasting his morning necter. I went into my studio and smelled the smells of paints, cleaned brushes, wood, and those smells that only studios have. I sat quietly, halloed by a sunbeam lighting the floor. I meditated in the quietness and gave thanks the miracles of nature and the miracles of life. "BEACH MUSIC" "Beach Music" The water and beach have always been a part of my life - where I have many, many memories. It is always where I can figure things out .... and find solace. As summer was drawing to an end in 2007 I began creating this Assemblage/Collage from treasures I had found on the beach and which brought music to my soul and heart. It is created by using gessoed canvas and core board. The main body of the art being on the core board. Wood putty was applied with a pallet knife and dinner knife on the frame of the canvas, The drift wood was applied next; and, with wood glue. Found papers included the musical notes for the song, itself; and rope and metal that had washed in from the boats and ships were included as well. At intervals, and during the creative process, spray adhesive was applied and sand from the beach sprinkled randomly over the piece. Just as the lake wind blows the sand where ever it may be. And, of course many shades and shapes of found beach glass added. I have had many offers to buy it, but it is not for sale. Beach Music is always on display in my studio and travels with me to every exhibit. |
